Our communication studies: community engagement major program integrates studies in persuasion, public speaking, intercultural communication, and strategic communication with perspectives from political science, sociology, psychology, and philosophy. In this major, you will gain the skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of the public sector, communicate across diverse audiences, and lead efforts to create positive social impact.
Effective communication is essential for civic engagement, public advocacy, and leadership. With built-in public speaking and leadership development, our program will provide you with the communication skills necessary to lead and influence in diverse public, professional, and civic spaces.
Through hands-on community-engaged learning experiences, applied projects, and for-credit internships, you’ll develop practical skills for intercultural and ethical communication strategies and how to critically evaluate and engage in public discourse and policy.
You will graduate prepared for careers in community outreach, advocacy, nonprofit leadership, government, corporate communication, public relations, and other fields that require strong public engagement and leadership abilities.
